SMS and Email Consent Documentation

Last updated: March 2026

This page explains how Relanco collects consent from SMS and email recipients, what types of messages are sent, and how to opt out.

About Relanco

Relanco is an automated payment reminder service for Quebec contractors and tradespeople. When a contractor uses Relanco, SMS and/or email messages may be sent to their clients to notify them that an invoice is awaiting payment.

Who sends the messages: Messages are sent on behalf of the contractor (your service provider). Each message identifies the contractor as the sender, in accordance with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

1. How Consent Is Collected

Relanco sends messages only to clients for whom a contractor has confirmed consent.

Here is how it works:

  1. The contractor adds a client to Relanco (manually, via CSV, or through an accounting integration).
  2. Before activating automated reminders for that client, the contractor must check a confirmation checkbox stating that the client has consented to receive payment reminders by SMS and/or email. This checkbox is never pre-checked.
  3. This consent is recorded in our system with the date and time of confirmation.
  4. No message is sent to a client until the contractor has confirmed consent and activated reminders.

Types of consent recognized:

Record-keeping: Consent records are retained by Relanco for at least 3 years from the last interaction, as required by CASL.

2. Types of Messages Sent

Messages sent through Relanco are exclusively transactional messages related to existing invoices. This applies to both SMS and email.

Examples of messages sent:

There are no promotional, advertising, or marketing messages. Relanco never uses your clients’ contact information to send offers, promotions, or any communication unrelated to an invoice.

3. Message Frequency

Frequency varies based on the reminder sequence configured by the contractor. The default sequence includes up to 5 messages sent over a 14-day period following the invoice due date. Contractors can customize or reduce this frequency.

No messages are sent between 9:00 PM and 8:00 AM Eastern Time.

4. Sender Identification

In accordance with CASL, every message clearly identifies the contractor sending the reminder (name or business name) and includes a way for the recipient to contact them. For emails, full contact information is included in the footer. For SMS, the contractor’s name appears in the message.

5. How to Opt Out (STOP / ARRÊT / HELP / AIDE)

If you receive an invoice reminder and no longer wish to receive them, you can opt out in several ways:

By SMS:

These keywords are active at all times, and the opt-out mechanism remains functional for at least 60 days after each message, as required by CASL.

By email:

Click the unsubscribe link in the footer of any reminder email.

Through the contractor:

Ask your service provider directly to disable reminders in their Relanco account.

Through Relanco:

Email us at info@relanco.ca with your phone number or email address.

All opt-out requests are processed immediately and in all cases within 10 business days, as required by CASL. There is no charge to unsubscribe.
